Everest Gokyo Ri Trek

Everest Gokyo-Ri Trek is one of the best trekking in the Everest Region. The exciting trip around the Everest region and into the valley of glacial lakes is a fantastic trip that offers to collect the best views of the mountains and explore the vibrant Sherpa villages. The inclusion of the exploration of the glacial lakes of Gokyo is a great part of the adventure. Whereas, hiking to Gokyo Ri to collect the best views of mountains including Mount Everest is special.

The Everest Gokyo Lake trek not only includes the views of the mountains but explores the vibrant Sherpa villages as well. Well known as the mountaineers, Sherpa people are born mountaineers. The exploration of the beautiful Sherpa villages of Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Dole, and more is part of the trip. Similarly, trekking through the rhododendron and pine forest is fantastic. Occasional encounters the wildlife including Himalayan musk deer, and snow leopard adds excitement to the trip. 

Trekking in Nepal is a seasonal activity and it applies the same to Everest Gokyo Lake Trek. The best time to trek Everest Gokyo Ri is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Likewise, Trekking to Everest is possible in the months of the winter (December to February) as well. But trekking Everest Gokyo Ri in the months of monsoon (June to August) is not recommended due to the heavy rainfall. 

Trekking path to Gokyo lake

The Tenzing & Hillary Airport is one of the most popular and busiest mountain airports around the world.  Where walk leads through traditional and cultural Sherpa villages, the Highlander of the eastern Himalayas, known for natural expert mountain guides from Adventure A One trek team. 

The villages are lined with Buddhist monuments of prayer walls and spinning wheels with rocky cliffs imprinted with prayers. The walking path leads down to Chheplung and keeps going to Ghat and Phakding. First night stay in Phakding 2,660m. And the next day your destination heading to one of the most popular Sherpa villages called Namche. Which lies 3,340 meters high from sea level. Namche is Main Gate to Entrance the Everest base camp Trek and many other mountain climbing like the Island peak climb with EBC Trek, Labuche Peak Climb with EBC trek, etc.  From Namche one path leads to Everest base camp and another path heads to Gokyo valley.  After one day of rest and Acclimatization, you will be heading to Dole, Machhermo, and Gokyo 4,800m.

Everest Gokyo-Ri Trek Difficulty

The Everest Gokyo-Ri trekking is a moderately difficult one. This trek requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and stamina as you will be walking for six to seven hours. During December and January, The Gokyo-Ri peak is quite difficult to reach. There are narrow rocky trails and an icy slippery ascent. The ice can make climbing more challenging. So, we recommend using crampons if you plan to climb at the end of autumn. Best Time

Nepal is divided in region Himalayan, Hilly, Terai. The finest seasons for hiking and excursions in Nepal are spring and fall. Spring lasts three months (March, April, and May), and the autumn season lasts three months more (September October, and November) If you want to go on some tough trips in Nepal, you can do so at any time of year. Trekking Winter can be really difficult as temperature could go beneath 0 degree Celsius. Likewise in Monsoon season it will constantly rain which will make trekking strenuous and there is also risk of cancellation of flights. Normally, Spring is the peak climbing season and the best time for trekking too and in this period some of the places are really crowded.  While in Autumn there are fewer people, those who doesn’t like crowd tend to trek in this period. You can Tour in winter and summer but trekking is difficult and unadvised.

Better you should take medium price service which will be around USD 1750/ per person in 2023 and 2024.  This budget includes a flight ticket for both directions, a permit, accommodation, a Guide, a porter, three times meals in trekking, and so on. Trip Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu international airport, the Adventure A one Treks representative welcomes you and will help you to transfer to the hotel. You can then take a good rest in the hotel. Later you can explore around yourself if interested.

With an early morning flight, you will be arriving at Lukla airport. At Lukla, meet the porters before starting the trek. The route to Phakding is an easy one. Just keep on your eyes as the finest views of Kusum Kanguru can be collected. Phakding is a small settlement in the Dudh Koshi river bank. Enjoy a comfortable night's stay at the Phakding teahouse.

Start the day with a good breakfast. Get into to Monjo then enter Sagarmatha National park- the home to the greatest Himalayan flora and faunas. The dense forest of blue pine, deodar, rhododendron, and more. On a clear day, you can also catch the first glimpse of Mount Everest on the way up to Namche Bazar. After six hours of trek, you will be reaching Namche Bazar- which is also famous as the Sherpa capital. Namche is the home of famous mountaineers. You will be staying two nights at Namche before heading up.

After breakfast, you will be hiking up to Everest viewpoint to collect 360 views of the mountains. The viewpoint offers stunning views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest. Later in the afternoon, you can explore Namche Bazar or can take a good rest in your hotel.

Taking a different route than Everest base camp, you will be walking a winding path to Kyangima. Along the way, you will get a chance to spot the wildlife including colorful Danphe, Himalayan musk deer, mountain goat, etc. The route then diverts to the north to reach the ridge of Mong and then to the beautiful village of PhortseThanga. Phortse onwards, you will be taking an uphill route to get to Dole for the night. You will be staying overnight in a local village.

Relatively short day for the trek. You will be first getting to LhabarmaKharka and then to Luza. From Luza, you will be taking a downhill route to get to Machhermo. In the afternoon you are taking a short hike to collect the excellent views of Mt Cho Oyo and other towering peaks. You will be spending the night at a local teahouse.

The scenic trail gradually leads to Gokyo valley. The rocky path into the wonderful valley passing the glacial lakes is something amazing. Upon reaching the Gokyo valley, you will get a chance to explore the lakes after lunch. The views of Mt Cho Oyo 8188m  look even better. Enjoy exploring the wonderful valley.

The day is dedicated to the hike to Gokyo Ri and the exploration of the glacial lakes of Gokyo. Gokyo Ri offers the panorama of the world’s highest peaks from Mt. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taweche, and to the east rises Mt. Makalu. Then you will get back to the hotel for the lunch. Post lunch you will be exploring the beautiful lakes of Gokyo. You will be spending your night at a local teahouse.

After exploring the wonderful valley of Gokyo and a fantastic trip to Gokyori, today you will be trekking back to Dole. You will be following the same way back to reach Dole. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge.

The easy and pleasant way. Although the distance is a bit longer, the route is mostly descending. You will be crossing the familiar villages before getting back to Namche Bazar. At Namche Bazar, you can go to the café to enjoy the good coffee and the fresh bakes. You will be staying overnight at a local teahouse.

Retrace the same way back, that you have followed up. Get the final glimpse of mount Everest, enjoy the stunning trails, and wish good luck to the trekkers going up. At Lukla, you will be saying goodbye to your porter as well.
