Route

The route starts in Jumla, a small town in western Nepal. From here, travelers will trek through the dense forests of the Rara National Park, passing through several villages along the way. From Tha Rara Lake trek, the route heading up to the Lower Dolpo Trek and higher is known as Upper Dolpo Trek. 

The trek continues towards Rara Lake. As you reach Rara Lake, you will see breathtaking views of the huge lake and surrounding hills with pine and juniper trees. From Rara Lake, trekkers can explore the area and visit nearby villages. As you trek, you will pass through terraced fields and the villages of Chhumgaon, Phalguna, and Chhinchu.

The best time to visit Rara Lake is in the Months of Spring March to May and early winter the month from October to December. Rara Lake is the biggest and deepest lake in Nepal which lies in the far northwestern part of Nepal. It is located between Jumla and Mugu District. Normally, the Rara Lake trek can be done at any time of the year. It depends on your choice and holiday.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu( 1,350 m / 4,430 ft) and transfer to Hotel.

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative. You will be then transferred to the hotel. Later, you can take a good rest or walk around the local market in your free time. 

Day 2 : Kathmandu valley sightseeing and preparation.

The full-day Kathmandu Valley sightseeing is dedicated to exploring four of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites of Kathmandu. The sites that are covered are Pashupatinath Temple, Soyambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Temple, and Patan Durbar Square. During the sightseeing, you will get insights into the historical, cultural, and religious aspects of the valley. Later, you can prepare for the trekking. 


Day 3 : Fly to Nepalgunj (150m./492ft).

You will have time for further preparation in Kathmandu. Then you will be taking a scenic flight to Nepalgunj. You will be then transferred to a hotel. In your free time, you can walk around the local market in Nepalgunj. You will be staying at a hotel in Nepalgunj. 


Day 4 : Fly to Jumla (2,540 m/8333ft.) then trek to Chauriya Chaur (3,055/10022ft./5/6 hours trek).

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport to catch the flight to Jumla. After forty minutes of scenic flight, you will be arriving at Jumla airport, the trek will then begin. Following the farm villages and the small local villages, you will be reaching Chauriya Chaur for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge.  


Day 5 : Trek Trek to Bota via Jaljala pass at (3,585 m/11761ft./5/6 hours trek).

The walk begins with an uphill walk inside the rhododendron forest. The walk inside the cool dense forest gradually takes you to a ridge called Jaljala Bhanyjyang. The places offer a wonderful view of Kanjiroba Himal. From the top, you will be taking a downhill trail to reach Bota for the overnight. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 6 : Trek to Ganj(2, 680m/8792ft./5/6 hours trek).

Following the downstream inside the forested area of the pine tree, you will be arriving at Sinja village. Sinja was an old kingdom. You can see so many old temples ruins, monuments, and several other things around the old palace complex. You will be spending some time at Sinja to learn the historical aspects of the place. Then you will be walking further to Ganj for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 7 : Trek to Ghorasinga (3,050m/10006ft./5/6 hours trek).

Following a wonderful water stream on the northern face, you will you taking a short climb to arrive at a wonderful valley with few local houses and farmlands. From there on you will be making a final push to reach Ghorasinga. It is a small village in the lap of the hills. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 8 : Trek to Rara Lake (2,980m/9776ft./5/6 hours trek).

The big day is here as you will be trekking to Rara Lake this day. From Ghorasinga, you will be taking an uphill to Chuchemara Danda, the ridge offers wonderful views of white mountains and exciting landscapes. From there taking a descending route, you will be getting to Rara Lake. Rara Lake is the biggest lake in Nepal. In your free time, you can get good views and can walk near the lake. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 9 : Rara Lake Excursion.

The day is dedicated to exploring Rara Lake. You can go around the lake and enjoy the magnificent views of green hills, white mountains, and the amazing Rara Lake. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 


Day 10 : Trek to Pina (2,440m/8005ft./5/6 hours trek).

Upon enjoying the fantastic days at Rara Lake, today you will be starting your journey back. The route first takes you to Jhyari village. There onwards following the Jhayri Beri Khola downstream you will be trekking to Pina for the overnight. Pina is a small village with few houses with local lodges to stay in. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 11 : Trek to Chauta (2,807 m/9209ft./5/6 hours trek).

The first section of the walk is towards Gurchi Lagna which is 3500 meters above sea level. The ridge offers wonderful views of snowcapped mountains, diverse landscapes, and the green vegetation around.  Upon enjoying the greater views at Gurchu Lagna, you will be descending to Chauta for the night. You will be staying overnight at a tented camp. 


Day 12 : Trek to Khaligaon (3,685/12089ft./5/6 hours trek).

The walk starts after breakfast, following Sinja Khola and then to Burma village. Along you will be passing Karma where the herbal medicine Silaji can be found. The walk continues through Nyaware village and then to a ridge. From the ridge, the swift descent takes you to today’s night stop Khaligaon. Khalligaon is a small village with few teahouses. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 


Day 13 : Trek back to Jumla (2540m./8333ft./5/6 hours trek).

On the final day of the trekking, this day you will be trekking back to Jumla. The route to Jumla includes a few local villages, a forested area, and farmlands. Upon arriving at Jumla, you can explore the local Bazar. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 


Day 14 : Fly back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj airport.

After enjoying a fantastic trip to Rara Lake, you will be returning to Kathmandu this day. First, take a swift flight from Jumla airport, and get back to Nepalgunj. From there, you will be taking a connecting flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. In your free time, you can do some last-minute shopping around the hotel. 


Day 15 : Final departure .

After an amazing week in Nepal, you will be transferred to Kathmandu airport to catch your return flight home. Our representative will be helping you to transfer to the airport, with the hope of seeing you again in Nepal.  “FERI BHETAULA”.
