Helambu Trek

Helambu Trek is one of the short and easy trekking routes near Kathmandu Valley. Popular for its amazing natural and cultural wonders, Helambu is a peaceful village dominated by the Hyalmo people. The people who follow Buddhism have been practicing the methods for years now. Combined with the Tamang and Sherpa people, they are two of the tribes living in the Himalayan belt of Nepal. 

The exciting trek to Helambu also allows us to collect the fascinating views of Ganesh Himal (7,406m), Langtang Lirung (7,345m), and Gaurishankar (7,145m). Regarded as one of the easiest and low-altitude treks, the maximum elevation of the Helambu trek is 3500 meters above sea level. Walking through the dense forest of rhododendrons, bamboo, and pine forests to the green meadows, this trip offers fabulous views of the diverse landscapes too. 

As the trek goes inside Shivapuri National Park, the occasional encounters of wildlife are expected. Whereas, citing the different kinds of perfect is normal. Walking through the farmlands and via the small local settlements, this trek truly offers to witness the local lifestyle and experience the way of living of the mountain people. 

Like other trekking in Nepal, Helambu Trek is also a seasonal trip. The best time to trek to Helambu is the months of spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The months of winter (December to February) are also a good time to trek. But Helambu Trekking in the months of monsoon (June to August) is less recommendable.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu( 1,350 m / 4,430 ft) and transfer to Hotel.

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will welcome you. You will then be transferred to the hotel. Later, you can take a good rest or walk around the local market in your free time. 

Day 2 : Drive Sundarijal 1 hr. (1,385m/4,545ft), Trek to Chisopani (2,295m/7,655 ft/4/5 hours trek).

The journey kicks off with a short and scenic drive to Sundarijal from Kathmandu. From Sundarijal you will be officially starting the trekking and will be heading towards Chisapani. Following the easy path, you will first get to a hydro plant and further to the Shivapuri National Park. Moving further from there you will be reaching a beautiful village called Mulkhara. From there you will be pushing further to get to Chisapani for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 3 : Trek to Khutumsang (2,470 m/8,250 ft/6/7 hours trek).

You will be getting up early to collect the wonderful sunrise views of the Himalayas from the Chisapani viewpoint. Upon collecting the wonderful sunrise in the Himalayas, you will be having your breakfast. Post breakfast the trek then begins. The journey to Kutumsang is about six to seven hours walk through the forest, farmlands, and meadows with greater views of the Langtang mountains. Kutumsang is a wonderful village on the lap of the hills. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 4 : Trek to Tharepati (3690 m/11635 ft/6/7 hours trek).

After the morning breakfast, the journey resumes. With the wonderful views of the snowcapped mountains, you will be trekking through the rhododendron forest to get to YurinDanda. The jungle looks stunning in the months of spring (March to May). Yuri Danda also offers greater views of the mountains. With a further push from YurinDanda, you will be reaching Tharepati for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 5 : Trek to Tarke-Gyang (2,600 m/9,115 ft/5/6 hours trek).

Heading towards the east, you will be getting off to the ridge. You will then further be descending to Melamchi village. Melamchi village is a wonderful village of Sherpa people having unique cultures and traditions of their own. Melamchi Bazaar has several Buddhist stupas and shrines and it is believed that the place is sacred. After spending some time at Melamchi, you will be hiking up to TarkeGyang for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 6 : Trek to Sermanthang (2,590 m/8,715 ft/5/6 hours trek).

Through the dense forests and fantastic water streams, you will be trekking to Sermanthang this day. The first village you will be getting to this day is Parachin and the next to Ganyul. After spending some time and Ganyul, you will be making your final push to reach Sermanthang for the night. Sermanthang is a beautiful Sherpa village with some Buddhist monasteries. In your free time, you can walk around the village and visit the Buddhist monasteries. Sermanthang also offers wonderful views of the snowcapped mountains. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 7 : Trek to Malemchi Bazar (850 m/2825 ft)/5/6 hours trek).

Early morning you will be collecting the stunning sunrise view in the Himalayas. Then you will have breakfast before trekking to Melamchi Bazar.  The trek today is about a five to six-hour journey in the pleasant trekking route.

Day 8 : Drive to Kathmandu (4/5 hours’ drive).

On the final day of the trip, you will be taking a drive back to Kathmandu from Melamchi Bazar. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you will have enough time for last-minute shopping. 

Day 9 : Final departure .

After an amazing week in Nepal, you will be transferred to Kathmandu airport to catch your return flight home. Our representative will be helping you to transfer to the airport, with the hope of seeing you again in Nepal.  “FERI BHETAULA”.
