Route To Everest Base Camp Trek

Most trekkers start walks to the Mount Everest base camp trek and the high Kalapathar scenic hilltop from the busy town of Lukla. One of the world’s highest mountainous airports is named Tenzing Hillary Airport, a tribute to legendary climbers.

From Lukla walk follows the scenic Dudh Koshi River valley and gorge, lined with nice traditional Sherpa villages in Khumbu Valley. An opportunity to observe the local immense cultures of the Buddhist religion adorned with a series of prayer walls and religious monuments.

This trek is A visual odyssey: where you can catch magnificent views of the high Himalayas.  Every house is adorned with prayer flags called Lung-Ta, which means wind-horse with prayer imprinted. The flags symbolize goodwill as well to wade evil spirits, the walk continues to Phakding.

The main village on route Namche Bazaar where most trekkers heading up spend overnights in Phakding. After the first overnight trip around Khumbu, the walk leads on a pleasant trail through spread-out villages to cross a bridge reaching Monjo village. The trek continues entering Sagarmatha National Park, the word Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepali and Chomolungma in Sherpa language. Tengboche is also famous for the colorful festival Mani Rimdu, held in November from the 08th to the 10th of this year 2022. After Tengboche on the high trail to Everest base camp luxury trek, walk through Pangboche, the last permanent village of eastern Khumbu valley. The walk leads to the scenic wide Imjatse valley where the Dingboche settlement is located enclosed by high snow peaks. Everest Base Camp Location and History

There are two Base Camps, the endpoints of hiking or trekking Everest. North Base Camp and South Base Camp. Southern Base Camp lies in Nepal, which is the ending point of the most famous trek. Everest Base Camp Trek is dedicated to Sherpa culture and traditions, so you need to respect Sherpa traditions and culture while you trek to Everest base camp or any other trekking in the Everest Region. The Northern Base camp lies in China on the Nepal Himalayas and can be accessed via a roadway. But reaching the Nepalese side requires you to trek for days. Nepal's side Everest Base Camp is much more popular with trekkers. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa used the South Everest Base Camp to keep their gear.

The point was chosen as it was easily accessible to non-mountaineers. Everest Base Camp was born when the mountain was looking for a place to store supplies at the base of the Mountain. Nowadays, the same point where the first Mount Everest climbers kept their gear is an endpoint of the Everest Base Camp.

For a maximum of 4-8 people, it is great for EBC Trek and Everest Luxury Trek, or any other Trekking will only be with local transportation from the airport to the airport in Kathmandu and Ramechap before and after the trek. The walk is pleasant and not overly difficult, from Dingboche on the high trails to Everest base camp. The gain in altitude makes the trek slower within thin air as the walk leads closer to the main destination. Staying overnight at Lobuche, a small settlement with several nice lodges facing grand views of Nuptse Peak. The next day adventure heads towards the main highlight of the trip at Everest base camp.

The walk follows on a rocky path above Khumbu Glacier to Gorakshep; situated on a glacial valley at the base of Kalapathar Hill. The adventure continues towards the east from Gorakshep to Everest base camp, enjoying close views of staggering towering peaks. Standing beneath the world's highest Mt. Everest and close to the notorious Khumbu ice-fall and Khumbu glacier at Khumbu valley. After an enjoyable and exciting moment, return to Gorakshep for the last overnight within the shadow of Mount Everest.

Then you will proceed to an early morning climb of a few hours to Kalapathar Hill top rewards stunning close views of Mount Everest. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of the giant peaks that surround the high Kalapathar within the close front of Mount Pumori. Upon completing the major highlights of the adventure, return journey downhill to Pheriche, Pangboche, and Tengboche.

The walk follows the same route to Namche Bazaar and then back to Lukla for the last overnight halt. Next early morning a smooth scenic flight takes you to Ramechap and Manthali airports. An exciting drive of 4-5 hours brings you to the hustle and bustle of city life in Kathmandu. After an overwhelming experience and great adventure on Everest base camp trekking. 

EBC Trek Difficulty 

Everest base camp trek is a moderate difficulty till Namche Bazaar, walking on a pleasant and well-defined trek. The walk leads to a long winding climb of a few hours to Namche Bazaar, the trail is wide and easy to trek. The only difficulties and hard is due to the high altitude and thin air, that is from Tengboche onwards. Necessary few days are required for acclimatization before reaching higher terrain and to Everest base camp.

The main tough day is the climb to Kalapathar Hilltop, a steep-sided slope where altitude gains rapidly. Making the walk slower, and having few refreshing stops will overcome the difficulties. if you plan to go for Labuche peak climbing this will be the best choice for Acclimatization.  The rest of the walk on the return trek to Lukla is pleasant as you lose much elevation day by day. The difficulty level of the EBC trek with Island Peak Climbing is much different and more attractive for beginners to peak climbing and expedition. 

Best Season to Everest Base Camp Trek

The best season is Khumbu Valley and Everest Base Camp Trekking: The best season is spring, which starts from March to May when days are much longer with enough sunlight hours. It's the right time for wildflowers in their seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal. Days are bright and sunny but can get cloudy in the late afternoon, cold morning, and nighttime. Expect rain and snowfall sometimes around high elevations.

The next best season for the Nepal Himalayan trek is autumn and fall which starts from September to November. Most days are fine and clear for views and walks, but short days are due to sunlight hours. Cold in the morning, late afternoon, and night times, and chances of snowfall sometimes. Interested people can trek during the winter times of December to February, most days are fine and clear. But days are shorter due to minimum sunlight hours and so, could get snowfall sometimes. 

The Distance of EBC Trek: 

From Lukla to Lukla is 43 Kilometer/27 miles. The total distance covers 86 km. / 54 miles. The above mileage does not cover the extra walk to Kalapathar which is approx. 4 km. one way. The surface distance from Kathmandu to Lukla is 366 km. and the flying distance is 138 km. Taking only 30 to 35 minutes. From Ramechap flight takes 20-25 minutes only.

Everest Base Camp Trek Cost:

Everest Base Trek costs vary as per the itinerary days chosen as well 

depending upon the number of trekkers. EBC Trek Costs a minimum of 2-3 people for 11 nights and 12 days, Trek to Everest Base camp costs USD 1,180/- per person in 2023 and 2024. (Not counting the hotel accommodation and meals in Kathmandu).

Package Cost:

The Everest Base Camp Trek entry permit is necessary so, all citizens of people around the world have to pay some cost to enter Sagarmatha National Park. For Foreigners, it costs Nrs. 3,390/- per person. Residents of SAARC (South Asian Association Regional Co-operation). NRS. 1695/- and For Nepali people permit Cost is  Rs. 115/-

Nowadays there are two other costs TIMS (Trekking Agency Association of Nepal and Solukhumbu Rural Development cost) TIMS cost $20 and Rural Development Cost $20, this amount will be included in the above budget.

Note: Everest Base Camp Trek for Sagarmatha National Park permit is free for Children under 10 years of age. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1334m./4376ft.)

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport, the Adventure A One  Trek representative welcomes you and will help you to transfer to the hotel. You can then have a good rest in the hotel. Later you can explore around yourself if interested. 

Day 2 : Drive to Ramechhap and Fly to Lukla (35 minutes/ 2800m./ 9186ft) than trek to Phakding (2610m. /8500ft./4/5 hours trekking).

With an early morning  Drive to Ramechhap around 5 hours and a flight to Lukla. You will be arriving at Lukla airport. At Lukla, meet the porters before starting the trek. The route to Phakding is an easy one. Just keep your eyes open as the finest views of Kusum Kanguru can be collected. Phakding is a small settlement on the Dudh Koshi river bank. Enjoy a comfortable night's stay at the Phakding teahouse.

Day 3 : Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m./11286ft./ 5/6 hours trekking).

Start the day with a good breakfast. Get into Monjo then enter Sagarmatha National Park- the home to the greatest Himalayan flora and faunas. The dense forest of blue pine, deodar, rhododendron, and more. On a clear day, you can also catch the first glimpse of Mount Everest on the way up to Namche Bazar. After six hours of trek, you will be reaching Namche Bazar- which is also famous as the Sherpa capital. Namche is the home of famous mountaineers. You will be staying two nights at Namche before heading up.

Day 4 : Hike to Everest viewpoint (2 hours hike/3780m./12401ft.) and Namche Bazar exploration.

After breakfast, you will be hiking up to the Everest viewpoint to collect 360 views of the mountains. The viewpoint offers stunning views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest. Later in the afternoon, you can explore Namche Bazar or have a good rest in your hotel. 

Day 5 : Trek to Tengboche (3800m./12467ft./4/5 hours trekking)

After spending two amazing nights at Namche Bazaar, you will be trekking Tengboche on this day. The route to Tengboche is fascinating as it covers the greatest views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and more. Tengboche is the village with the biggest Buddhist monastery in Everest. Make sure to visit the Tengboche monastery. Later in the evening, you can collect a greater view of sunset in the Himalayas. The overnight will be at a local tea house.

Day 6 : Trek to Dingboche (4410m./14468ft./4/5 hours trekking)

Start the hiking after breakfast. The route to Dingboche is mostly uphill where you will be crossing several suspension bridges and local villages. One of the best villages you cross on the day is Pangboche village which offers greater views of Mount Ama Dablam. Occasionally, this section offers the spotting of snow leopards and Himalayan musk deer too. Located at 4410 meters above sea level, Dingboche is a small settlement, where you will be spending two nights. 

Day 7 : Hike to Nagarjun Hills (5000m./16404ft./2 hours hike).

After breakfast, you should take a short hike to Nagarjun Hills. It is the vintage point to collect the best views of Mount Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Labuche, and more. Then retrace back to the lodge and spend the day taking a good rest. 

Day 8 : Trek to Labuche (4910m./16108ft./ 4/5 hours trekking)

Enter the valley of dusted snowed grasslands, you can enjoy the greater views of Amadablam, Lhotse, Pumori, and more along the way. Labuche today’s overnight place is a small Sherpa settlement with a few tea houses around. Take a good sleep with the excitement of getting to Everest base camp the next day. 

Day 9 : Trek to Everest base camp(5364m./17598ft.) via Gorakshep and back Gorakshep. ( 5140m./16863ft./7/8 hours trekking).

Today is the most exciting day, you will first trek to Gorakshep for three hours. You will then have your lunch there. Post lunch, leave your bag packs and start the hike to Everest base camp with some essentials (a day pack, water, a camera, and some chocolates). It takes ninety minutes to get to base camp from Gorakshep. Enjoy the moments, collect the memories, and leave a footprint at Everest base camp. Then retrace back to Gorakshep for the night. 

Day 10 : Hike to Kalapatthar (5545m./18192ft./2 hours hike) and trek to Pheriche. (4210m./13812ft.)

Early morning, get to Kalapatthar to collect the best sunrise view. Kalapatthar is the better place to see closer views of Mount Everest. Collecting the sunrise view at Kalapatthar is the best experience of the whole trek. You will then get back to Gorakshep for breakfast, before taking the way back to Pheriche. You will be following the same way back to get to Pheriche. You will be spending your night at one of the many tea houses at Pheriche. 

Day 11 : Trek back to Namche Bazar (3440m./11286ft./5/6 hours trekking)

The easy and pleasant way. Although the distance is a bit longer, the route is mostly descending. You will be crossing the familiar village of Pangboche, Tengboche before getting back to Namche Bazaar. At Namche Bazaar, you can go to the cafe to enjoy the good coffee and the fresh bake. 

Day 12 : Trek back to Lukla (2800m./9186ft./ 5/6 hours trekking).

Retrace the same way back, that you have followed up. Get the final glimpse of Mount Everest, enjoy the stunning trails, and wish good luck to the trekkers going up. At Lukla, you will be saying goodbye to your porter as well.

Day 13 : Scenic flight back to Ramechhap 20 minute flight and Drive back to Kathmandu.

After collecting all the greatest memories of the trek, today you will be flying back to Ramechhap and Driving back to Kathmandu. transferred to the hotel where you can take a relaxing rest. 

Day 14 : Final departure.

With all the finest memories, today you will be flying to your next destination. Our representative will be transferred to Kathmandu airport. With the hope of seeing you again in Nepal, we will be saying bye for this time.
