Manaslu Circuit Trek Overview
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a breathtaking journey through
the remote and untouched landscapes of Nepal. This 17-day adventure takes
you deep into the Himalayas, where you’ll explore traditional villages and
lush forests, crossing the high-altitude Larkya La Pass (5,170m/16,962ft). As you trek alongside Mount Manaslu (8,163m/26,781ft), you’ll
experience stunning mountain views and the rich culture of the local
communities.
Walking along peaceful trails, surrounded by fluttering prayer flags and
the warm hospitality of locals, this trek feels like stepping back in time.
If you're wondering how this trek compares to others, read our guide
on Manaslu Trek vs Annapurna Trek.
Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, where we spend time preparing and exploring the city's rich culture. A
scenic drive then takes us to Machha Khola (930m/3,051ft), the starting point of the trek. From here, we journey through rivers,
forests, and ancient prayer walls. If you’re concerned about the difficulty
level, check our guide on How Difficult is Manaslu Circuit Trek.
The village of Samagaun (3,530m/11,578ft) is one of the trek's highlights. Nestled among the mountains, it’s an
ideal place to acclimate before crossing the pass. Optional hikes
to Manaslu Base Camp or Pungyen Gompa provide incredible views and a chance to prepare for the
ascent.
The Thrill of Crossing Larkya La Pass
Reaching the Larkya La Pass is a rewarding experience, with stunning views of Mount Himlung (7,126m) and Kang Guru (6,981m). After crossing, the trail descends to Bhimtang, where you get your first glimpse of the Annapurna massif. The trek ends in Chyamje, followed by a return to Kathmandu.
Alternative Routes: Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek & Ganesh Himal Pangsang La
Pass Trek
For a different experience, the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek offers a unique route. This trek takes you through the
hidden Tsum Valley, known for its ancient monasteries, Tibetan culture, and stunning scenery.
It’s a great option for those looking to explore more remote areas.
Another alternative is the Ganesh Himal and Pangsang La Pass Trek.
This route offers spectacular views of the Ganesh Himal range, diverse
landscapes, and cultural experiences with the Tamang and Gurung communities.
It’s perfect for those seeking a less-traveled but equally breathtaking
adventure.
Permits & Paperwork Made Easy
Special permits are required to trek in this region. We take care of all
paperwork, including the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. A TIMS card may also be needed for some sections.
Guided Trekking for a Safe Journey
Solo trekking is not allowed for safety reasons. Our experienced guides
know the trails well and ensure a smooth journey. For important safety tips,
check Health and Safety Tips for Manaslu Trek.
Teahouse Stays & Comfortable Lodging
Accommodation along the trek consists of teahouses and small family-run inns. Rooms are basic but comfortable, usually
with twin beds and shared bathrooms. Some places offer hot showers and
private facilities. Meals include dal bhat (lentils and rice), noodles, pancakes, and even pizza in some areas.
Electricity & Connectivity on the Trail
Most teahouses have electricity, allowing you to charge devices for a small
fee. However, Wi-Fi is unreliable, especially at higher
altitudes, making this a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy
nature.
Best Time to Trek Manaslu Circuit

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?
The Manaslu Circuit Trek offers travelers a chance to escape the crowds along
more popular routes, instead stepping into an untouched world where minutes
stretch into hours. Visiting remote Himalayan villages near Tibet, trekkers
greet locals with smiles, offering glimpses into lives preserved from changing
times. Every stride unveils discoveries - prayer flags rippling high in the
sky or rivers carving through valleys, the work of glaciers.

experience than the Annapurna Circuit trek. The Manaslu Circuit features fewer trekkers, pristine landscapes, and a
deeper immersion into local culture.
