Overview

Chulu East Climb

Chulu East is a popular Trekking (climbing) peak in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Located at an altitude of 6,584 meters (21,840 feet), it is the highest point of the Chulu massif, which includes Chulu West and Chulu Far East.

The Chulu East trek is a challenging but rewarding journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Nepal. Along the way, you will pass through lush rhododendron forests, high mountain passes, and traditional villages. The summit of Chulu East is a beautiful viewpoint, offering stunning views of the Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and more.

Chulu East Climb is a great adventure inside the Annapurna region. This fascinating adventure allows us to collect the striking views of the Himalayas and enjoy an exciting adventure in Nepal.  Chulu peak climbing is a fabulous journey that starts from the warm tropic areas and then gradually goes to the cool alpine zone before ending at the arctic zone of ice and glaciers.

This fine climb to Chulu East Peak allows us to walk through the alpine forest of rhododendrons, pine, and magnolia forests. Exploring the scenic valley of Annapurna and witnessing the unique cultures, traditions, and living styles of the locals are amazing.

The inclusion of the Thorang La Pass at 5416 meters is one of the major highlights of the trek. Likewise, visiting the famous Muktinath Temple(mustang) is a wonderful experience. Muktinath temple is famous in the Hindu and Buddhist regions. Most importantly, the successful summit of the Chulu East Peak is the greatest experience.

Climbing Route

The trekking route starts from the village of Besisahar, situated at an altitude of 780 meters. It takes around 8-10 days to complete the entire trekking route. The route passes through several beautiful villages and terraced fields, before reaching the base camp of Chulu East at an altitude of 4,600 meters. From here, the trail ascends to the high camp of Chulu East at an altitude of 5,400 meters.

The summit can be reached by a challenging climb to the peak, which involves some technical climbing and a few exposed ridges.

The most rewarding part of the Chulu East trekking route is the stunning views of the Himalayas and the surrounding landscape. The summit offers an amazing view of the Annapurna range, including the majestic Annapurna I, II, III, and IV.

The trek also takes trekkers past some of the most beautiful local villages and terraced fields, giving you a chance to experience the culture and hospitality of the Nepali people.

Best Time

The best time to climb Chulu East is during March to May when the weather is generally the most stable and snow conditions on the peak are at their best. During this time, climbers can expect to enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures during the day, and cooler temperatures at night. The high altitude also means that the sun can be quite strong, so it is important to bring and wear plenty of sunscreens and protective clothing.

For those looking for a more challenging experience, September and October are also good times for climbing Chulu East. During this time, the temperatures are cooler and the snow conditions are often more difficult, making the climb more difficult. Additionally, this is the peak monsoon season in Nepal, so climbers should be prepared for the possibility of rain and snow throughout the climb.

Difficulty

The trek to Chulu East is a strenuous climb and involves walking on steep and rocky terrain. It usually takes between 5 and 7 days to reach the summit, depending on the route and the weather conditions.

The route to the summit can be quite difficult and involves crossing glaciers, steep rock faces, and traversing exposed ridges. You will need to be well-equipped with all the necessary mountaineering gear and supplies.

The weather in Chulu East can be unpredictable and climbers must be prepared for any eventuality. Avalanches and snowstorms are a common occurrence on the mountain, and there is a high risk of altitude sickness and exposure.

Guide and porter

A guide is a local expert who is knowledgeable about the terrain, climate, and climbing conditions of a particular area. They are essential for anyone attempting a challenging climb such as Chulu East. Your guide will be able to advise on the best routes and provide invaluable advice on how to make the most of your climb.

A porter is a local person who carries the heavy equipment and supplies needed for a successful climb. They are an invaluable asset to any climbing group, and they can make the journey much easier and more enjoyable. Porters are used to carrying heavy loads and will be able to transport all your necessary gear up the mountain.

Accommodation

The trek offers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from basic teahouses to full-service lodges. Teahouses are common along the trail and offer basic rooms with shared toilets and showers. These are often the cheapest options and provide a great way to meet locals and other trekkers.

Full-service lodges offer more comfortable accommodation and private bathrooms. Many of these lodges provide hot meals and a selection of snacks, as well as other amenities. There are also a few luxury lodges located along the trail, offering premium accommodation, delicious meals, and a range of services.

Food of Chulu East Climb

The trekking meal is renowned for its delicious meals, which are often prepared using locally sourced ingredients. The most popular dishes include dal bhat, a simple lentil dish served with rice, and momo, a type of steamed dumpling. Other local dishes include Thukpa, a noodle soup, and Sel roti, a deep-fried bread.

The trek also offers a range of international dishes, including pizza, noodles, and sandwiches. Many of the lodges offer specialty drinks, including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and local alcohol. For those looking for a more adventurous meal, some restaurants and food stalls along the trail offer yak meat and other local delicacies.

Chulu East Climbing cost

For a group of 2-4 people, the Chulu peak Climbing cost is approximately USD 2099 per person in 2023, 2024. This includes all expenses such as accommodation in guest houses, meals, an experienced guide, porter services, and national park fees.

The total cost of the trek also depends on the number of days the trek lasts. Generally, the trek takes between 10-14 days, including rest days.

The cost of the Chulu East Climb also varies based on the services included. If you require additional services such as pick-up and drop-off from the airport, a private vehicle, or an English-speaking guide, the cost of the trek will increase.
